Bioceb

European Master in Biological and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Bioeconomy

Beginning of the third semester for the 2nd intake

After a having spent the first year of Bioceb in France and in Estonia, the Bioceb students from intake 2 are now studying either at Aalto University (Finland), at Université de Liège - Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (Belgium) or AgroParisTech (France), depending on their study-track.

Cohorte 2 Bioceb students of track 1 started the semester in the new campus of AgroParisTech, in Palaiseau, on September 12th.

During the first days, they attended to a presentation of the semester in AgroParisTech and they visited the new facilities. They also enjoyed a "Bateau-mouche" cruise with students from another Erasmus mundus joint master degree coordinated by AgroParisTech.

Moreover, they spent 2 days in Troyes, to attend to the 6th symposium organised by FRD - CODEM "Fibres naturelles et polymères" in Troyes, on September 14th and 15th. The students had the opportunity to discover the industrial applications and environmental benefits of the vegetal fibers in the field of materials. They talked with several R&D and innovation specialists in this area (start-ups, technical centers, public research laboratories, financers etc.).

During their free time, they visited famous moments in Paris such as Petit Palace and the Versailles Castle.

Testimonial of the students:

"The tracks 2 and 4 Bioceb students of the 2nd cohort have already begun their 3rd semester in Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University of Liège.

An orientation was held for the students to formally welcome them, introduce the various school and student services, student associations and aid them with regards to registrations and student portal systems. In the latter part of the day, the students were shown around the campus, the TERRA Teaching and Research Centre and the various laboratories for their experimental work this semester. The students ended their orientation with a lunch organised by Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University of Liège.

The students have also been formally welcomed by the coordinator Professor Aurore Richel. In the meantime, the students are enjoying school and life in the Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University of Liège."

"Cohort 2 Bioceb students of Track 3 and Track 5 are settling well in Aalto University, Finland for their third semester.

They had their orientation week from August 29th to September 2nd where they got introduced to the Finnish way of living, the vibrant student life, and the beautiful campus of Otaniemi.

Their semester is focused mainly on materials and biopolymers. As such, they will be learning the different features and properties of pulps and fibers, the fundamentals of synthesizing polymers and polymer composites, the characterization of lignocellulosic biomass, and the production of advanced materials from cellulose and other biopolymers.

Some students also recently attended an event organized by the Finnish Forest Products Engineers’ Association and FinnCERES which served as a good avenue for the students to interact with the forest product research community in Finland.

They had an information session with the Aalto coordinators, Prof. Eero Konturri and Anja Hänninen, last October 4th, 2022. They were guided on how to proceed with their GLP activities this semester and they also received important details regarding the master’s thesis project for the next semester.
